Autism friendly screenings are sometimes called relaxed or sensory friendly screenings. Adjustments are made to reduce stress and sensory input, such as low lighting and sound, freedom to move and staff trained in autism awareness. We hope this section helps make your Cinema visits more enjoyable.

At least once a month ODEON, Cineworld, Vue, Showcase, Picturehouse and Everyman cinemas show popular films in an autism friendly environment.

We hope these screenings will help more people with sensory sensitivity enjoy the cinema and for many, provide a transition into regular screenings.

Anyone who feels they can benefit from the adjustments is welcome and no proof of diagnosis is needed. Your loved ones or support staff are welcome too.

Autism-Friendly Screenings are available in various locations via different Cinema companies

Cineworld hosts autism friendly cinema screenings on the first Sunday of every month at 11am.

Cineworld is proud to offer screenings that cater for those on the autistic spectrum. Features include: lights being left on, reduced volume and the option of bringing your own food. This is a great way to catch a family favourite movie at the cinema without breaking routine too much. You can find a full list of participating cinemas here. CEA Card

Most cinemas accept the CEA card which entitles the holder to one free companion ticket.

The Card enables a disabled cinema guest to receive a complimentary ticket for someone to go with them when they visit a participating cinema.

The Card is also one way for cinemas to make sure they look after their disabled guests. If you require an adjustment to visit a cinema because of your disability, cinema staff should make them for you whether you have a CEA Card or not.

The Card is developed by UKCA’s Disability Working Group, whose members include film exhibitors and distributors, and national disability charities such as Action on Hearing Loss, the RNIB, Dimensions and Muscular Dystrophy UK.

To apply for a CEA card

The CEA Card is available to applicants aged 8 years and above.

To apply, you will need:

  • Proof of eligibility
  • A photo
  • Payment of £6.00

The CEA Card is valid for one year from the date of issue. You can pay for your card online or by post.
