Hi, I’m Laurie, I have two children – a daughter aged 18 and an 11-year-old son. My son was diagnosed with ASC when he was 10 and also has a diagnosis of ADHD and some health issues.

I recently contacted Reach northwest, as I realised I was becoming increasingly isolated from the world, a feeling which other parents and carers will understand.

The struggle for information and support and the constant fight for services since my son was younger, have become a massive part of my life – and it has become obvious that this is something that many families have also experienced.

I have recently achieved a BA (Hons) Education and Special educational needs and also have level 1 & 2 in British sign language. My son has inspired me and given me the passion to progress in the area of special educational needs, with an aim to be able to support other families in the future.

I am excited to join Reach North west as a volunteer, and look forward to meeting everyone soon.
